What Is BMW Coding
BMW coding involves making software changes to your vehicle, unlocking new features or changing how existing ones work. In some cases, those features are already in your iDrive by BMW, and coding is needed to make them available. An example of coding to activate an aftermarket backup camera — iDrive is already designed to accommodate a rear view camera in cars that come with one from the factory, and activating a retrofit kit only requires unlocking those software capabilities.
Common Coding Features
- Acoustical lock/unlock confirmation – Enable/disable the acoustical confirmation when the car is locked/unlocked.
- Auto Start Stop function – Enable/disable the Auto Start Stop function.
- Daytime running light mode – The mode of the daytime running light.
- Lock doors automatically – The doors are locked automatically when reaching the set speed.
- Steering wheel heating – Enable/disable the heating for a retrofitted steering wheel.
- Video in motion – Activate video in motion.
